Standout Scholarships Guide

How To Win A Scholrship Guide

Step 1

Find out what you want to do

That seems to go without saying but a lot of people seeking for scholarship and higher education don't really know what degree/career path they want to pursue. No organization one will give you scholarship money if you don't know what you want to do with it.

Step 2

Get Professional aid

Whether it's a the financial aid office at your college, your high school advisor, friends, family or an online source, information is out there for those who are willing to take advantage of it. Same goes for writing applications; you have free online and offline resources to help you write professional applications. And the best part is, it's free (just like this guide J )

Step 3

Research

So you got some information and some sources to look into. Dig in those sources and find scholarships that are not on necessarily on Google's first page, that are not advertised on T.V. That way you know you'll have less people applying for them and higher chances to win.

Step 4

Emphasize your uniqueness

When you search for scholarships, emphasize your unique skills and individuality. For example:

Google scholarship for "enter your minority/religion/nationality/talent"

I have a friend who won a scholarship just because her parents were born in Poland! So be creative and use your unique characteristics traits to find scholarships!

Step 5

Sign up to win free scholarship giveaways

I know people are usually skeptic about those and I completely understand that. You tell yourself, nothing in this life is free, so why would someone give me a scholarship just because I gave them my email? Well it's very simple, those companies compile huge mailing lists that worth a lot of money for thise companies, so they are willing to draw scholarship money for anyone who's willing to give them some basic information.

Step 6

Do something crazy (but legal)

As I mentioned before, if you want to distinguish yourself you got to think outside the box. for example, about 2 years ago I signed up tp the best job in the world contest, which was basically was a contest to win a job in the great barrier reef in Australia. The job paid 6 figures for 6 months and all you had to do is travel the island and document it with a camera. Cool right? Well to apply you had to create a unique video of yourself promoting the islands, so I did (you can find it if you go to youtube and search: ori united states). Now I didn't win "The best job in the world", but I put this video on my resume and potential employers are intrigued by it and it shows them that you are creative and taking initiatives. Same goes for scholarships applications, if you have done something unique, take pride in it and show it!

Start Here to Find Scholarships for African Student

Start Here to Find Scholarships for African Student

A number of scholarships for African students are awarded annually by federal governments, organizations and universities in different parts of the world. Generally, Scholarship award programs are available in large variety for international students, but some of these international scholarships are not open for African students. In such cases while searching for scholarship, applicants may have to comb through several scholarship pages online to find ones that accepts students from Africa. Interestingly, there are a good number of scholarship-awarding programmes for African students available every year and a lot other newly introduced programmes.
Prospective students looking for sources of financial award to further their education need to devote time and effort with the available resources online to find and apply for scholarships. But this does not go without saying that you need to fulfill certain requirements to be eligible. You can find a number of scholarships for African students on scholarship websites that provide free resources on national and international scholarships for African students. With the use of search engines like Google and Yahoo, you can tactically find scholarships that suite your preference.
Some scholarships are made available for all African countries (including other international students in some cases), while a lot other are available for specific countries in developing countries (Africa included). Here are some of the major scholarship programmes that accept Africans yearly which you can take advantage of.
Australian Development Scholarship
The Australia Development Scholarship Awards for Africa is an initiative of the Australian Government aimed to maximize the benefit of the Australian Government's extensive scholarship programs, and to support enduring ties between Australia and neighboring African Countries. Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) are available for full-time Postgraduate Diploma or Master Degree studies at Australian universities.
Ford Foundation International Fellows Program
The International Fellowships Program (IFP) is a program supported by the Ford Foundation, and coordinated in West Africa by the AAU (Association of African Universities) in collaboration with Pathfinder international in Nigeria. IFP provides fellowships for advanced study to exceptional individuals who will use their education to further development in their own countries and greater social and economic justice worldwide. IFP fellowships are awarded to applicants that lack systematic access to higher education. Some past fellows have returned to their previous work in government, universities, and with NGOs, while others are now working in rural communities.
Fulbright Scholarship
The Fulbright scholarship programme is offered through Educational exchanges that strengthen understanding and communication between the United States and students from over 140 countries, including selected African countries. Students interested in applying can do so through the Fulbright Program Office in their home country.
Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship
The Rotary club offers scholarship to international students each year through the Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial scholarship. African students who are members of the Rotary club foundation are eligible to apply through their local Rotary Club.
OPEC Fund for Scholarship Award
The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) offers Scholarship Award to support postgraduate students from developing countries in pursuit of higher education. OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly driven individuals overcome the cost of advanced professional or graduate training.
And the list goes on, but let's leave it at these for example purpose.
These are few of the many scholarship programmes for Africa students. There are likewise a large number of not-so popular scholarships for African Students to take advantage of. What you need is diligent research on the internet with the right online resources to find these programmes.
Applying for scholarship
To maximize the possibility of winning scholarships, students should start looking for suitable scholarships early (at least one year before you intend to apply for admission). Most students make the common mistake to start searching for scholarships after they have gained an admission for their undergraduate or postgraduate studies. Starting early will help you to carefully select through scholarships you will be eligible to apply for, and use it to prioritize your choice of country, university or course of study. You'll also be informed of the possible application period each year (for annual programmes) and then carefully prepare your application. To increase your chances of winning a scholarship, you should follow through the process religiously. Feedbacks from scholarship awarding committee shows that up to 90% of students that apply for scholarship do not follow through the rules and guidelines. This is an advantage for students that put more time and effort into their scholarship application.
Where to find Scholarship for African Students

Student Loans-A Guide to College Grants and Scholarships

Student Loans-A Guide to College Grants and Scholarships

College grants and scholarships help students make up the difference between what they can afford to pay and what the college charges in tuition and fees. In an era when parents are increasingly unable to help pay for a university education as their stock portfolios and home equity shrinks, college grants and scholarships can help make up the gap.
A scholarship is generally a merit based award. For instance, the most famous scholarship is probably the athletic scholarship where a student gets a full ride including tuition, room and board in exchange for playing on a school's sports team. But other scholarships exist as well. Colleges try to put together the best overall class and they use scholarships to entice students to their campus.
Students with high grades or test scores, significant community service or leadership, or certain artistic skills often are the recipients of institutional scholarships.
Scholarships are also granted by community organizations such as the Rotary Club, businesses, and foundations. While the requirements vary from award to award, they always feature some level of merit.
Sometimes scholarships have a need-based component, but they are usually based in large part on merit.
Grants are also free money. Unlike scholarships, the distinguishing feature of grants is that they are based on need. While there are general qualifications such as a minimum grade point average, grants are awarded to make up the difference between what the college charges and what the student can pay.
Sometimes the university itself steps in and helps the student with a grant. Other times, the state or federal government makes a grant. Perhaps the most famous grant is the Pell Grant which the federal government awards to students coming from the lowest quartile of the economic spectrum. These awards are for up to $4000.
College grants and scholarships are different from other types of aid because there is no work involved and they do not have to be paid back.
Work-study grants, for instance, are contingent on the student working a 10 to 20 hour a week job on campus. Universities prefer to hire students receiving work-study to fill their student assistant positions because the federal government foots much of the bill.
Loans have to be paid back once a student graduates from college. Because they are packaged as part of the overall student aid budget, many students do not realize what a hardship it will be to pay these loans back after they graduate. They leave college with tens of thousands of dollars in student loans that must be paid back on an entry level salary.
That's why it is best to go to a school where the college grants and scholarships make up the bulk of the award package.
